There’s nothing like singing your heart out to make you feel good. Whether you’re in the car with the windows down or you’re tackling the weekly housework.

Music has been there for me throughout my coming out journey, with the lyrics of certain tracks powerfully hitting home, even if I didn’t recognise it until years later.

From the Constant Craving of KD Lang to the Freedom of the late, great, George Michael, the clues were always there. I just had to find the courage to acknowledge them and live a life of love and laughter that was right for me.

June is Pride Month, so what better way to celebrate than to share some of the tunes that have become my gay anthems over the years.

Unsurprisingly, there are plenty of older classics. A child of the 80s, me. ;-) Take a look.

Smalltown Boy, Bronski Beat — I can still remember picking out the tune on my keyboard as a closeted girl loving girl in the 80s. The song chronicles a young gay man who leaves his small town to find acceptance.

Constant Craving, KD Lang — Such a great track and an incredible voice. KD Lang was the first androgynous lesbian to become a big star on MTV. ‘Maybe a great magnet pulls all souls towards truth, or maybe it is life itself that feeds wisdom to its youth. Constant…
